Pickleball Cocktail vs Pickle Juice

How does Pickleball Cocktail compare to Pickle Juice?

There’s nothing that can ruin a pickleball match faster than a muscle cramp. One little spasm can take you from hero to hobbling in a matter of seconds.

I know, because I’m a pickleball addict, and I’ve suffered through my share of leg cramps.

My name is Patrick Sullivan Jr., Cofounder and CEO of Jigsaw Health. My wife, Ashley, and I got turned onto pickleball two summers ago, and we’ve been hooked ever since.

Once I get out on the court, it’s almost impossible to pull me away…unless I get a muscle cramp. Then I’m done for.

That’s why we invented Pickleball Cocktail — a sugar-free, delicious orange-flavored beverage that keeps my muscles happy on the court, so I can play longer than anyone else wants to.*

I love this drink, and now I’m excited to share it with the world!

How does Pickleball Cocktail compare to pickle juice, you ask? (Okay, you didn’t ask, but I’m going to tell you anyway.)

Let’s judge them by four different metrics: taste, appearance, nutrition, and convenience.

Pickleball Cocktail vs Pickle Juice: Taste

I love pickles! They’re great! But pickle juice? I’m not really a fan. It’s purse-your-lips vinegary and salty, like those old bitter-beer-face commercials from the 90s. I know some people love that pickle juice flavor, but it’s just not for me.

Pickleball Cocktail, on the other hand, is a delicious orange flavor — not too sweet, not too salty. Even better, it contains absolutely zero sugar because it’s naturally sweetened with stevia leaf and monk fruit extracts.

Pickleball Cocktail vs Pickle Juice: Appearance

Pickle juice is a cloudy, nuclear-green color. When you’re hot and sweaty and dehydrated, it’s not the kind of thing you look at and think, “Yeah! I wanna drink that!”

In contrast, Pickleball Cocktail is a clear, lovely orange color. It looks refreshing and inviting. It practically screams “Drink me!”

Pickleball Cocktail vs Pickle Juice: Nutrition

Pickle juice contains the electrolytes sodium and potassium, so it helps replace what you lose through sweat. (If you can stomach drinking it, that is.)

But pickle juice is much heavier on the sodium than the potassium. A 3.5-ounce serving of pickle juice contains between 1,150 mg and 2,645 mg of sodium and just 141 mg of potassium. (That’s anywhere from 50 to 115 percent of the RDI!) Most people need more potassium than sodium, so pickle juice has it backwards.

Plus, pickle juice is missing another key electrolyte: magnesium.

Like pickle juice, Pickleball Cocktail contains sodium and potassium, but with a much different (and superior) ratio. Each packet provides 800 mg of potassium – as much as two bananas – with just a pinch of sodium: 90 mg. (To put that into context, that’s 17 percent of the RDI for potassium and just 4 percent of the RDI for sodium.)

Pickleball Cocktail is a good source of magnesium, too, delivering 50 mg per packet (12 percent of the RDI). Know why that’s important? Because there are two types of muscle cramps.

That’s right. If you start cramping during a game, that’s a sign your body is low in potassium. If you cramp up in the middle of the night, that’s a sign your body is low in magnesium.*

So to summarize…pickle juice has lots of salt, a smidgen of potassium, and no magnesium. Pickleball Cocktail has lots of potassium, a pinch of salt, and a good dose of magnesium.

Pickleball Cocktail vs Pickle Juice: Convenience

Pickle juice is used as triage. You drink it on the court when you get a cramp and then stall your game waiting for it to go away. Not only is this inconvenient to your fellow players, but it’s also inconvenient for you to have to carry the stuff around with you. (Plus, have you ever spilled pickle juice on your stuff? It’s not pretty.)

Pickleball Cocktail is used as a preventative. You drink it first thing in the morning, in the convenience of your own home, to keep cramps from happening in the first place. Do it once, and don’t think about it again.
