Background Information:
Sugar shortages throughout Europe in the 1940s prompted Scandinavian countries to use xylitol as a sugar substitute. By the 1950s, Scandinavian children were found to have fewer cavities than children in countries still using sugar.
Today, Finland leads the world in overall dental health as they continue to use xylitol as a healthy alternative to sugar.
Xylitol comes mainly from corn cobs and stalks, a renewable resource. When exposed to this natural sugar, bacteria lose their ability to adhere to the surface of the teeth—reducing tooth-destroying acids and driving plaque from the mouth.
And xylitol is a natural sugar unlike saccharine (Sweet’N Low®), aspartame (NutraSweet®, Equal®), and sucralose (Splenda®) which are artificial sweeteners. As chemicals, artificial sweeteners are not recognized by the body as food—precisely why they have no calories.
SparX naturally flavored, sugar-free candies give kids the sugary taste they crave—and gives you the peace-of-mind knowing that it’s good for them.
Also check out the Spry Dental Defense System, a family of high-quality oral care products manufactured using xylitol. Spry fights cavities and plaque by creating an unwelcome environment for bacteria—they simply cannot stick to teeth in a xylitol-rich environment. Clinical studies show that regularly using oral hygiene products with xylitol can reduce tooth decay by up to 80%.
