Background Information:
Pass on the salt…we’re over-salted. The average American consumes between 0.4 ounces and 0.7 ounces of sodium chloride—or what we know as “table salt”—each day.
Unfortunately, the body sees table salt as an aggressive cellular poison. As the body tries desperately to rid itself of these poisons, the kidneys and liver quickly become overwhelmed. The body now tries to neutralize the sodium chloride by surrounding it with water taken from the cells. The dehydrated cells die and, as a result, the body excretes just 0.17 to 0.25 ounces of table salt a day.
For every .035 ounces of sodium chloride not eliminated, the body uses 23 times its own cell water to neutralize it—leading to excess fluid in the body tissue which causes cellulite.
If the sodium chloride is still too high, the body uses undigested animal proteins to produce uric acid—which can’t be excreted by the body. The uric acid then binds to sodium chloride to form new crystals. These new crystals are deposited directly in the bones and joints causing arthritis, gout, kidney stones, and gall stones.
This re-crystallization protects the body from damage caused by a bad diet. In the long run, though, it poisons the system with substances that can’t be eliminated. That’s why healthcare professionals tell us to avoid salt.
Problem is, not only do we add table salt to just about everything we eat, sodium is used to preserve many foods. One look at a food label can tell you just how much salt you’re really getting. So, adding salt to already over-salted food puts the body in a grave position, giving it more salt than it can possibly eliminate.
In truth, our bodies require just 0.007 ounces of salt per day. And when we fall below 0.007 ounces per day, our salt cravings kick in.
But the body doesn’t crave “chemically cleaned” salt that has been reduced to sodium chloride and stripped of essential minerals. It craves natural salt that comes from the earth.
