Vitamin D deficiency rates continue to rise despite the soaring consumption of Vitamin D supplements.
And it's likely because there's more to the biological puzzle of Vitamin D metabolism than most realize...
You see, every enzyme required for your body to metabolize Vitamin D needs Magnesium as a necessary co-factor -- you simply cannot build optimal levels of Vitamin D without ample amounts of Magnesium.*(1)
In fact, here's a story Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND shared from one of her readers...
" A reader on my blog reported that her vitamin D levels remained chronically low (below 30) despite months of high dose supplementation of vitamin D. It wasn't until she added magnesium that things changed quite dramatically. After adding magnesium, her last vitamin D level was 67, which for her was a miracle. This turn about surprised her endocrinologist as well. She also noticed a big difference in how she felt. She no longer had chronic "unexplained" muscle tenderness, and could exercise longer on her treadmill and felt great." (2)
Furthermore, an abstract found on The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) also notes " taking large doses of vitamin D can induce severe depletion of Magnesium."
Bottom line, if you have low Vitamin D levels, consider adding a daily Magnesium supplement. And, if you currently supplement with Vitamin D, be sure you are also supplementing plenty of Magnesium along with it.
