Syndrome X: Common Causes
Genetics. A family history of high cholesterol levels, diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity, and/or high blood pressure increases the risk of Syndrome X.
Inadequate diet. The refined sugar, simple carbs, and trans fats found in the average American diet puts many people at risk for developing Syndrome X, which is a precursor to more serious disorders such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
Physical inactivity. A sedentary lifestyle, combined with a poor diet, can lead to obesity, a major risk factor for Syndrome X.
