A Hidden Infection That Can Keep You from Losing Weight
Print Page Send a Link
Where do I start?

Are you overweight and can’t seem to lose the pounds, despite your best efforts? If you’ve been adjusting your diet and following a good exercise program, but the bathroom scale just won’t budge, then you may have a fungal infection called Candida, also commonly known as yeast overgrowth.

When the body’s immune system is weakened due to a variety of factors (such as an acute viral or bacterial infection), Candida (which normally inhabits the body in lesser quantities) can overgrow to unhealthy levels. In addition, the use of antibiotics to kill a bacterial infection essentially upsets the delicate balance of intestinal flora. When you take antibiotics, all the bacteria are wiped out, including the good bacteria that the body needs to help control Candida.

Furthermore, if you seem to have intense cravings for sweets and simple carbs that just won’t go away, a Candida infection may be to blame. Candida feeds on sugar, and the simple carbs that easily convert to sugar. If you cave in to your sweet tooth and carb cravings, then you are actually feeding the hungry and multiplying Candida. This creates a vicious cycle of feeding Candida, increased cravings, and weight gain.

Refined Sugar Increases Infections

If you give into your intense cravings for refined sugar due to Candida overgrowth, you may actually be weakening your immune system even further. That’s because refined sugar is known to suppress the immune system and increase your chances of developing colds, flus, and other acute infections.

There are several steps that you can take to eliminate Candida and jumpstart your weight loss. Many people find that once they resolve their Candida infection, the extra weight seems to melt away without extraordinary effort.
  1. First and foremost, make your immune system a top health priority. So many of us take our immune system for granted. By boosting your immune system, you can prevent illnesses from taking hold, and help eliminate Candida infection.
  2. Supplement your diet with allicin, a powerful antimicrobial agent found in garlic.
  3. Boost your intake of antioxidants, which have a positive immunological effect.
  4. Take a high-quality probiotic supplement to boost your good bacteria levels.
  5. Follow an anti-Candida diet which consists of eliminating all refined sugar, simple carbs and bad fats from your diet; while eating complex carbohydrates, quality proteins, and good fats.
A Vaccine for Obesity

This may not be far from the truth. New evidence suggests that there may be a specific virus that can actually trigger obesity. Researchers have found a virus called human adenovirus (AD-36) that triggers fat accumulation in chicken and mice. They have also found that obese people are more likely to have AD-36 antibodies than non-obese people.1,2 Researchers are now looking into the idea of creating a vaccine against AD-36 that may very well prevent obesity in the future.

It goes without saying: A healthy immune system wards off infection. Boosting your immune system to avoid infections may be one effective tool in the battle against the bulge.
